Yoshabet Martinez
Yoshabet Martinez, who goes by Yosha, is originally from Apan Hidalgo, Mexico. She has called North Carolina home since a very young age and proudly considers Wilmington her hometown, a place where she has built lasting friendships, meaningful relationships, and unforgettable memories.
Yosha has always had a heart for serving her community. From volunteering at church with youth and teen programs to supporting Festival Latino and assisting at local health clinics, serving and uplifting others has consistently been one of her greatest passions. As a bilingual professional, she is deeply committed to ensuring that language is never a barrier to participation, connection, or opportunity.
She began her career with the City of Wilmington Parks and Recreation Department on March 23, 2015, as a Recreation Assistant at the MLK
Community Center. Through dedication, leadership, and a deep love for community, she advanced within the department and, on April 24, 2024, stepped into the role of Recreation Supervisor at the Derick G.S. Davis Community Center.
Yosha’s professional philosophy is rooted in the belief that she does this work because of the WHO, the people she serves. For her, recreation is about improving people’s lives one activity at a time.
Above all, Yosha deeply loves her family. She believes that without the love and support of her family, her community, and her faith in God, she would not be where she is today. Their encouragement and strength continue to inspire her personal and professional journey.
For Yosha, community service is more than a career, it is a calling centered on connection, belonging, and transformation.
Matthew Brinker
Matthew Brinker is originally from a small town in southern Ohio and has lived in Wilmington, North Carolina since 2021. Brinker has been doing digital art his whole life, as well as teaching the things he has been interested in. Specializing in filmmaking and cinematography, Matt also is a photographer, a graphic designer, a drone pilot, and a musician among other things. Matthew proudly carries the banner of “all things digital art” and believes that everybody is an artist and that they just need the courage, and access, to pursue all of the quirky and creative things that come into our imaginations.
The community and the art scene here in Wilmington are very important to him, and being a part of Creating Art In Community seemed like a natural fit for the passions and interests already being pursued personally and professionally.
